As noted in the introduction at the top of this page, the identifications used for photos—and the entire site, for that matter—are based on hobby names, not taxonomically accurate names made with comparison to type material. The genus Avicularia is particularly problematic. With the exception of A. laeta, A. minatrix, A. purpurea and A. versicolor, which are very distinct spiders with early instar stages that are much different looking than the other hobby Avics and, in most cases, were described a long time ago with comparison to the generic type, the other Avic "species" present in arachnoculture are dubious at best.
